CHAKO's National Call Your Legislator Day is Friday Oct. 3, 2008
8:30-4:30 p.m.

Mark your calendars. This is the day we stand up as dog owners and make our voices heard, all at once, that we

1) oppose breed discrimination: laws that restrict our ability to own dogs because of breed

2) support laws that allow persons with disabilities to choose the breed of service dog best suited to their needs

3) support responsible dog ownership and laws that target BAD DOG OWNERS

These calls should take you no more than 10 minutes. Ten minutes out of your day to preserve your rights as responsible dog owners and prevent the slaughter of millions of dogs who have done nothing other than have the wrong "look." Join us for National Call Your Legislator Day. Call your state representatives and your federal representatives. Click on the link below to FIND YOUR REPRESENTATIVES:

PROJECT SMART VOTE

Project Smart Vote will work for almost everyone - it's easy one stop shopping, but if it doesn't, you can search for your state legislator via search engines. Type in "(Your State) Find Your Legislator." We've included sample state sites below, for your convenience.

Remember - 10 minutes of your time, October 3, about one month before the big November elections. Let your voices be heard. Send your legislators a message. Pick up the phone and CALL them!

Not sure what to say? It's best to speak from your heart and use your own words, but if you find yourself tongue tied, we've included a sample script for you. Please try to refer to your legislator by name (it makes a better impression).

"I would like my legislator to know that I oppose laws that discriminate against dog breeds or restrict my right to own a dog just because of the dog's breed. I also feel that breed specific laws that ban or restrict certain breeds of dogs interfere with the rights of persons with disabilities to choose the service dog best suited to their needs. I would like my legislator to support laws that target the bad dog owners, not specific breeds of dogs. Cure the disease, don't kill the patient. Thank you for listening. I appreciate your time."

Please, if you are not registered to vote before making the call, we urge you to register (but it's not necessary - just know they will likely ask for your name and address or zip code to determine whether you are one of their constituents). You can register to vote via:
